south fremantle remodelled garden

This South Terrace garden involved the creation of a North-facing outdoor living space created with hand-seeded concrete and covered minimalist steel pergola with fanned stainless steel wiring attached to allow for the growth of a purple flowering wisteria. This was selected because it sheds its leaves in winter to allow in precious winter light but protects the house from the penetrating summer sun.

The garden is protected from busy South Terrace by a 5 metre long screen composed of a selection of stencilled tree images cut into two Cor-ten steel panels and set amongst a grove of coastal tea trees.

It also involved the creation of a limestone curved sitting area and raised garden bed capped with granite and filled with organic soil and a selection of seasonal and perennial herbs.
There is a Japanese style stepping stone pathway which is straddled by two separate granite clad benches and connected by a winding concrete path to the feature outdoor living space.

The warn decking boards on the disassembled deck were used to create a shoji style garden privacy screen at the rear of the garden.
