raised garden beds and benches
Raised garden beds have gained in popularity in recent times as they provide a more convenient height at which to garden at. It is possible to build garden beds in a myriad of natural materials. In coastal areas local materials such as limestone can provide both formal and more informal retaining walls or garden beds. One of my favourite materials to work with is diamond cut donnybrook stone which provides smooth surfaces as well as rougher more angular shapes which provide a point of visual interest and texture.
In many of my designs I have integrated garden beds with benches to maximise space within the garden. They may used to grow vegetables, fruit trees or decorative native gardens. In an eco friendly garden these garden beds can easily be linked up to greywater systems thus providing beautiful waterwise gardens which minimise water usage without sacrificing the aesthetics of the garden.
